Everygreen ground cover

I have a garden that slopes down to the paved area, with slow drainage, and in heavy rains (as recently) the soil leaches down on to the paving. The only thing I can think of to do is to put plants next to the paving which will hold the soil back. Can you suggest what plants would be best. They would need to be close growing, everygreen, low growing and in shade (my garden is north facing). And it would be nice if there could be some colour in the leaves or flowers.
Is this a tall order? I would be very grateful for some advice.
