I bought an Areca Palm (Chrysalidocarpus lutescens) from IKEA and over a few months it slowly died. Admittedly, I know little about gardening and plant care. It was situated in the corner near a window and it did receive light, but never direct sunlight and I never fertilised it, although it did get regular watering.
What is the correct way to care for it and which fertiliser would folks recommend?

Hello,
Here are some care tips for looking after an Areca Palm. See if any of the tips give any clues to why your plant might have died.
Light
Partial shade is best, not direct sunlight.
Humidity
Central heating systems often cause the air in a living room to be too dry. Remember many houseplants are native of rainforest environments where humidity levels are high. Increase humidity by standing the pot on a tray of damp pebbles and mist the leaves regularly.
Temperature
50F is an ideal temperature.
Watering
Too little watering during the spring and summer months can cause problems.
Too much watering during the winter months can cause problems and may kill the plant.
Feeding
Feed once per month during the spring and summer with a fertiliser rich in Nitrogen.
